Large Families Scheme Singapore: LFS Grant and MediSave
Large Families Scheme Singapore explained: the S$10,000 CDA grant, S$5,000 MediSave Grant, LifeSG Credits, who qualifies and what changes in April 2027.
In this guide
The Large Families Scheme gives extra support to Singapore families with a third or subsequent Singapore Citizen child born on or after 18 February 2025. As at October 2026, it offers up to S$16,000 more per eligible child: a S$5,000 increase in the CDA First Step Grant (to S$10,000), a S$5,000 Large Family MediSave Grant for the mother, and S$1,000 a year in Large Family LifeSG Credits from the year the child turns 1 to the year they turn 6. There is no separate application; it is assessed automatically once your child is enrolled in the Baby Bonus Scheme.
The scheme is changing. The SG Child Support Package announced at the National Day Rally 2026 replaces the Baby Bonus and Large Families Scheme from April 2027. Here is what the scheme gives today, what ends and what stays.
Large Families Scheme at a glance (as at October 2026)
| Benefit | Amount | Paid to | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Increased CDA First Step Grant | S$5,000 extra, making S$10,000 in total | Child’s Child Development Account | About two weeks after the CDA is opened |
| Large Family MediSave Grant | S$5,000 | Mother’s CPF MediSave Account | About two weeks after Baby Bonus enrolment |
| Large Family LifeSG Credits | S$1,000 a year (up to S$6,000) | CDA trustee’s LifeSG app wallet | Annually, in April; none will be paid in 2027 |
| Partner merchant privileges | Varies | Large families | Ongoing |
These sit on top of the Baby Bonus benefits that third and later children already get, which are larger than for first and second children. Our Baby Bonus guide covers the Cash Gift and co-matching in detail.
Who qualifies
According to LifeSG’s Large Families Scheme page, your child is eligible for the increased First Step Grant and the MediSave Grant if they:
- are a Singapore Citizen
- are a third or subsequent child
- were born on or after 18 February 2025
- are enrolled in the Baby Bonus Scheme (and, for the First Step Grant, have a CDA opened)
The full amounts apply if at least one parent is a Singapore Citizen at the time of the child’s birth. If both parents were non-citizens at the time of birth and the child becomes a citizen later, the amounts are pro-rated.
Large Family LifeSG Credits have slightly different rules: they go to families with three or more living Singapore Citizen children (related by birth, adoption or step-relations), for each third and subsequent child aged 1 to 6 in that year, and are paid to married or ever-married parents. They also covered existing large families whose third or later child was born before 2025.
How each benefit works
Increased CDA First Step Grant (S$10,000)
Every Baby Bonus child gets a S$5,000 First Step Grant in their CDA. Under the Large Families Scheme, third and later children get S$10,000 instead. It is paid about two weeks after you open the CDA, and no savings are needed to receive it. The money can be used at approved institutions for preschool and healthcare costs for the child and their siblings. Our CDA guide explains how to open the account and what it covers.
Large Family MediSave Grant (S$5,000)
This S$5,000 goes into the mother’s MediSave Account, not the baby’s, about two weeks after the child is enrolled in the Baby Bonus Scheme. The mother can use it for medical expenses for herself and family members, including MediShield Life premiums, recommended childhood vaccinations, hospitalisation and approved outpatient treatment. If the mother is not eligible, for example because she is not a Singapore Citizen or PR, the child receives it instead. It is separate from the S$5,000 MediSave Grant for Newborns, which goes into your baby’s own MediSave account.
Large Family LifeSG Credits (S$1,000 a year)
These credits are loaded into the LifeSG app wallet of the child’s CDA trustee and can be spent at merchants accepting PayNow UEN QR or NETS QR, including for groceries, utilities and transport. Each year’s credits are valid for 12 months. The first payout was from 10 September 2025 and the 2026 payout was from 28 April 2026.
What changes from April 2027
LifeSG says the SG Child Support Package will replace the Large Families Scheme. Here is how each part is affected:
| Benefit | What happens |
|---|---|
| Increased CDA First Step Grant | Ceases from April 2027. Children born up to 31 March 2027 keep the existing amounts; children born from 1 April 2027 receive S$5,000, whatever their birth order. |
| Large Family LifeSG Credits | Ceases, with no disbursements in 2027, because every child aged 1 to 16 will receive S$2,000 a year in Child Credits instead. |
| Large Family MediSave Grant | Not confirmed for children born from April 2027. The Government has said more details on additional support for large families, including help with healthcare, transport and housing, will come later. |
| CDA co-matching | Higher caps for third and later children (S$9,000, or S$15,000 for a fifth or later child) can be used until 30 September 2027. All caps become S$5,000 from 1 October 2027. |
Our guide to the SG Child Support Package explains Child Credits, the Baby Gift and the PSEA top-up in full.
Example: a third child born in late 2026
Say your third child is a Singapore Citizen born in November 2026. Based on the information published as at October 2026, your family can expect:
- CDA First Step Grant: S$10,000, once the CDA is opened.
- Large Family MediSave Grant: S$5,000 to the mother’s MediSave, after Baby Bonus enrolment.
- Baby Bonus Cash Gift: instalments until 31 March 2027, then a top-up to S$10,000 by 30 April 2027 if less has been paid.
- Child Credits: S$2,000 a year, from the year your child turns 1 to the year they turn 16, in place of Large Family LifeSG Credits.
- CDA co-matching: up to S$9,000 if you save by 30 September 2027; S$5,000 cap after that.
Rules for transition cases can be detailed, so confirm your child’s position on LifeSG.
How to receive the benefits
- Register the birth and enrol in the Baby Bonus Scheme on LifeSG within 42 days. MSF then assesses Large Families Scheme eligibility automatically.
- Open the CDA with your chosen bank so the First Step Grant can be paid.
- Keep your details up to date, including the CDA trustee and your mobile number in your Singpass profile, as notifications go by LifeSG inbox, email or SMS.
- Link your child’s PayNow ID to a bank account before April 2027, as Child Credits under the new package are paid this way.
LifeSG also has a summary page showing the Large Families Scheme benefits you have already received.
The bottom line
If your third or later Singapore Citizen child is born on or after 18 February 2025 and before 1 April 2027, the Large Families Scheme adds a S$10,000 First Step Grant and a S$5,000 MediSave Grant for the mother, with no application needed. The Large Family LifeSG Credits end in 2027 and are replaced by Child Credits for every child. Figures are correct as at October 2026; more support for large families has been promised, so check LifeSG for updates. Our money and admin section has more guides.
How much is the Large Families Scheme in Singapore?
As at October 2026, it gives up to S$16,000 more per eligible third or subsequent child: S$5,000 extra in the CDA First Step Grant, a S$5,000 Large Family MediSave Grant and up to S$6,000 in Large Family LifeSG Credits. The LifeSG Credits will not be paid from 2027.
Do I need to apply for the Large Families Scheme?
No. Once your child is enrolled in the Baby Bonus Scheme, MSF assesses eligibility automatically. You do need to open the CDA to receive the First Step Grant.
Is the Large Families Scheme ending?
Yes. The SG Child Support Package replaces it from April 2027. The increased First Step Grant stops for children born from April 2027, and Large Family LifeSG Credits stop, with Child Credits paid to every child instead.
Who receives the Large Family MediSave Grant?
It goes to the mother’s MediSave Account if she is alive, the child’s biological or adoptive parent, and a Singapore Citizen or PR. Otherwise it is paid to the child.
