The best cot mattress is a firm, flat one that fits your cot snugly, with no gap bigger than two fingers at any side. In Singapore’s heat, a breathable core and a removable, washable cover matter nearly as much. Softness and extra padding do not help. A baby needs a surface that does not sink when they lie on it.

Below are the cot mattresses we would shortlist in 2026, from a S$70 IKEA foam mattress to natural latex and pocket-spring options. We also cover which size fits which cot and how to keep the mattress dry and fresh in our humidity.

How we chose

We are independent and no brand paid to be included. We only looked at mattresses sold by Singapore retailers such as IKEA, Mothercare, Motherswork, Pupsik, Baby Kingdom, Piccolo House and Megafurniture, or through official stores on Shopee, Lazada and Amazon.sg.

Every pick had to be described by its maker as firm or supportive, come in a standard cot size or be made for a specific cot, and have a removable or wipeable cover. We favoured cores that let air through, which helps in a warm bedroom. We left out mattresses the brand itself calls medium-firm or plush, even when they are popular. Prices were checked in October 2026 and change often during 9.9, 11.11 and baby fair sales.

Best for Stokke Sleepi owners

It is sold at Mothercare and Motherswork, with a separate mini mattress (about S$249) for the Sleepi Mini stage.
What we like
  • Exact fit for the oval Sleepi

Best waterproof protector

Best protector

IKEA LENAST Mattress Protector 60 x 120 cm

IKEAFrom about S$19.90
Leaks and spit-ups are a nightly event, and a waterproof layer stops them soaking into the mattress core, where damp can lead to smells and mould. LENAST is a fitted, waterproof protector that goes under the cot sheet and can be machine washed. Buy two, so one is always clean.
What we like
  • Cheap
  • Fitted, so it stays flat
  • Machine washable
Worth knowing

Buying guide: what to look for

Firm, flat and fitted

Press the centre of the mattress with your palm. It should spring back quickly and your hand should not sink in. Guidance from HealthHub, the AAP and the NHS is the same: a firm, flat surface with a fitted sheet and nothing else. Never add a pillow, topper, sheepskin or foam wedge on top, and do not use an inclined or rocking mattress for sleep.

The right size for your cot

Measure the inside of the cot, not the outside, and buy a mattress that matches. The two-finger test is the simplest check: if you can fit more than two fingers between the mattress edge and the cot side, the mattress is too small.

Cot type Typical mattress size
IKEA full-size cots (e.g. SNIGLAR) 60 x 120 cm
Many European cot beds 70 x 140 cm
Boori cot beds (e.g. Natty cot bed) 70 x 132 cm
Oval or compact cots (Stokke, Boori Compact) Brand-specific mattress
Bedside cribs and travel cots Use only the mattress supplied

Bedside cribs and travel cots are designed around their thin, supplied mattress. Adding a second mattress on top raises your baby closer to the rim and can create a gap at the edges.

Coir, latex or foam?

  • Foam is light, cheap and easy to lift. Look for a high-density foam that is described as firm, and a cover you can wash.
  • Natural latex breathes well and resists dust mites, but costs more. Choose a version labelled firm.
  • Coir (coconut fibre) is firm and airy, and is popular in local bedding shops. Make sure it is fully encased, fits exactly, and comes from a seller who can tell you what the layers are made of.
  • Pocket springs add airflow and durability, and suit cot beds that will later become toddler beds.

Keeping your baby cool on any mattress

A breathable mattress helps, but overheating is mostly about what your baby wears and the room temperature. Dress your baby in a light cotton layer and use a low-TOG sleep bag rather than a blanket. Our guide to the best swaddles and sleep bags in Singapore explains which TOG suits an air-conditioned room.

Keep the cot bare, with no bumpers, bolsters or pillows. Our safe sleep guide covers room-sharing, fans and aircon, and our explainer on baby pillows and bolsters explains why traditional sleep items are best left out. HealthHub’s safe sleep advice is a useful official reference.

New or second-hand?

Second-hand cots can be good value, but buy a new mattress where you can. An older mattress may have softened, sagged or absorbed moisture over years of use in our climate, and you cannot see inside it. If you must reuse one, for example a sibling’s mattress in good condition, check that it is still firm, flat, dry, clean and fits the cot without gaps. Still not sure which cot to pair it with? See our round-up of the best baby cots in Singapore.

The bottom line

  • Choose a firm, flat mattress that fits your cot with no more than a two-finger gap.
  • Match the mattress to your cot: 60 x 120 cm for IKEA cots, and the brand’s own mattress for oval or compact cots.
  • A breathable core and washable cover make life easier in Singapore’s humidity.
  • Add a waterproof protector, and keep the cot free of pillows, bumpers and toppers.

How firm should a baby cot mattress be?

Firm enough that your baby does not sink into it. When you press the centre with your hand, it should feel solid and spring back quickly. A mattress that feels comfortable to an adult is often too soft for a baby.

What size mattress fits an IKEA cot?

IKEA’s full-size cots, such as the SNIGLAR, take a 60 x 120 cm mattress. IKEA’s own cot mattresses, such as the KRUMMELUR, are made in this size, and most local brands also sell 60 x 120 cm versions.

Is a coconut fibre mattress good for babies in Singapore?

Coir mattresses are firm and airy, which suits a warm climate. The key is that it fits the cot exactly, is fully encased and stays dry. Pair it with a waterproof protector and air it regularly.

When should I replace a cot mattress?

Replace it if it sags, has dents that do not spring back, stays damp, smells or shows mould. A mattress in good condition can last through the cot years, but a new one is the safer choice for a new baby.
